Step-by-Step Processing Guide

1Prepare your workspace
Ensure a room temperature of 18–25 °C and good ventilation. Cover the work surface with protective film. Lay out mixing cups, a scale, stirring rod, brush, and disposable gloves.

2Weigh resin and hardener
Weigh 100 parts Resinpal 2301 resin and 50 parts hardener separately on a scale. Never mix by volume – always by weight!

3Mix thoroughly
Add the hardener to the resin and stir consistently for at least 3–4 minutes. Regularly scrape the sides and bottom of the cup to ensure no unmixed material remains.

4Transfer to a second cup (optional, for large batches)
For quantities over 500 g, transfer the mixture into a second cup and stir briefly again. This reduces the risk of poorly mixed material around the edges.

5Place reinforcement fabric
Cut fibreglass mat or woven fabric to size. Lay the first layer into the mould or onto the part. Apply the resin–hardener mixture evenly using a laminating brush.

6Degas & eliminate bubbles
Roll the saturated mat with a degassing roller to remove air bubbles. Work in the direction of the fibres.

7Build up additional layers
For thicker parts or higher strength, repeat steps 5 and 6 with additional fabric layers. Do not wait for full cure between layers – work while the surface is still tacky (wet lay-up method).

8Allow to cure
Cover the part and allow it to cure at room temperature for at least 24 hours before demoulding. At elevated temperature (approx. 50 °C in an oven), demould time can be reduced to 4–6 hours.

9Demould
After 24 hours carefully release the cured part from the mould. If release agent was applied correctly, the part should come free easily.

10Post-processing & full cure
Sand edges and surfaces as needed. The laminate reaches full mechanical strength after 5–7 days at room temperature. For optimum properties, a post-cure at 60 °C for 4 hours is recommended.
Pro Tips for Best Results
At higher temperatures (above 25 °C), pot life shortens significantly. In summer, pre-cool resin and hardener to 18–20 °C before mixing to gain more working time.
Large batches (over 300 g) generate more heat (exotherm) and cure faster. Mix several smaller batches instead, especially at warm ambient temperatures.
For optimum inter-coat adhesion, lightly sand a fully cured epoxy layer with 120-grit paper before the next application. This creates mechanical keying for permanently strong laminates.
Safety Notes
Always wear nitrile disposable gloves, safety glasses, and an FFP2 respirator mask if ventilation is inadequate. Epoxy resin can cause allergic reactions on direct skin contact. - Processing at too low a temperature: Below 15 °C the curing reaction slows dramatically – resulting in a permanently soft laminate.
- Used as casting resin: Resinpal 2301 is a laminating resin. For compact castings (over 5 mm layer thickness) please use Resinpal 1717 or Resinpal 1717-N3.
- No release agent applied: Without release agent, the epoxy will permanently bond to the mould. Apply at least three thin coats of release wax before laminating.
